Pendle Forest Orienteers – the orienteering club for Rossendale, Burnley, Pendle and Blackburn – has recently started a new weekly club night Rossendale. This is held at St James the Less RC Primary School, Rawtenstall, BB4 8SU on Wednesday evenings, from 6.30-8pm.
Orienteering is a challenging adventure sport which can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. The sport is a test of navigation, and requires you to find a series of checkpoints using a pre-prepared map. It takes place in parks, in woodland, on moorland and even in city and town centres. At an orienteering event, there are courses suitable for all ages, and all levels of experience - from complete beginners upwards. You don’t have to be super fit to take part – as although the fastest person round each course wins, it is often better to take your time and find the checkpoints accurately.
Pendle Forest Orienteers hold orienteering events approximately once a month, though you can usually find somewhere to have a go at orienteering every weekend, as other local clubs put on competitions which are open to all.
If you are interested in finding out more, why not go along to the weekly club night at St James the Less RC Primary School, Rawtenstall. Each week, the club coaches lead a range of activities designed to help you learn map reading skills as well as to keep you fit. No previous experience is necessary and the nights are suitable for all fitness levels, ages and abilities.
