Planner's Comments:

What a  beautiful day for orienteering ! Thankyou to all of you who competed at our event at Alkincoates Park. It was great to see so many newcomers to orienteering and those people who decided to 'have a go' on the spur of the moment, some of whom had already completed the Park Run earlier.
Bridget and I enjoyed the planning, albeit in a fairly tight time frame and hope that those of you who ran the technical course didn't find it overly fiendish! ( A large part of the map outside the immediate vicinity of the controls had been blanked out to make it interesting) We are happy to receive any criticism or ideas for future 'challenging'  Technical courses.
Many thanks to other members of PFO who offered their help at short notice and to George who organised and updated the map with Bridget.
We hope you will join us at Towneley Park , Burnley on Sat 13th Oct for the final event in the Autumn series.

For those wishing to try bike orienteering, there's a 10k course next Saturday 6th October at Gisburn Forest.  Details here with links to on-line entries via the BMBO website.

================================

Event 2 of 3 of our Autumn Series.

If you are a first time competitor Alkincoats Park is a great venue to learn about orienteering as a sport and as healthy recreation for all the family.  Part of the park is now a dedicated nature reserve.  You can try an easy course as a taster, then try another longer and more difficult course.  Regular orienteers will be "well challenged" by the longer technical course.

The park has matured since we last competed here.  Much has changed:  more wild areas to challenge your navigation and a new map drawn to ISOM2017 standards.

Registration will be in the Pavilion Cafe beside the bowling green - not our previous location at the Rugby club house.  The bowling green is on the southern side of the park with access from Barrowford Road, off Vivary Way, Colne.  Turn north at the traffic lights at Lloyds car showrooms.

The cafe offers hot/cold drinks, snacks and meals.  There is a very appetising range of homemade food on offer.  Details here.  One to try!

Safety note:  Rugby and football are played in the park.  If a game is in progress you must run round the pitch.
