Pendle Family Running Festival asked PFO to plan a Trail Score event that would appeal to runners, fell runners, orienteers and novices alike. The Barley area is excellent for this as there is a multitude of criss-crossing footpaths and other rights of way in the area, plus lots of contours. This provided Peter Stobbs (the planner) with many control sites and route choice options. Judging by comments at the finish, he did well, as everyone enjoyed the challenge. Congratulations to Mark Nutter CLM (Clayton-le-Moors Harriers) for his narrow win over Liam Corner MDOC and to first feamle Jean Brown PFO. Results can be found under Downloadable Documents below.
The course was perhaps too difficult for those not used to navigating on an OS map, so we have resolved for next year to include a "compact" course that is easier on the mind and body (suitable for both juniors and novices) as well as the "runner's" course that will be similar to this year's.
We trust you enjoyed the step back to non-electronic punching and didn't have too much trouble finding the tape markers.
See you next year?
