Aitken Wood & moorland, Barley

Aitken Wood lies astride a high ridge, overlooked by Pendle Hill, steeper on the the north side than the south. The wood is a mature conifer plantation that offers fast running for the most part. There is also an area of old larch trees. The Sculpture Trail, with numerous Pendle Witch inspired sculptures (all marked on the O map), winds it way through the forest.

The adjacent moorland is mostly short cropped grass, heather and reedy areas with ditch, other excavation and water features.
