Membership
Join the club, support the sport.
If you plan to orienteer more than a couple of times a year, joining PFO is a small annual cost that gets you insured, ranked, discounted at events, and contributing to the sport's future.
What you get
Insurance, lower fees, ranking points, and a voice in the club.
British Orienteering insurance
Public liability insurance covers you at every BO-affiliated event. From January 2026, non-members are no longer covered, you take part at your own risk and are personally liable for accidents to others or property damage. Membership solves this.
Discounted entry
Members pay a few pounds less per event than non-members at most fixtures, including all PFO events and most regional and national fixtures.
Ranking points
Your results count toward the British Orienteering ranking system and the regional NWOA league. You also become eligible for age-class trophies and the club's own awards.
Newsletter and events priority
Three or four newsletters a year with race reports, route reviews, and what's coming up. Members also get priority on capacity-limited events.
Training and coaching
Members-only training sessions on map-reading, pace judgement, route choice, and night orienteering. Coaching support for juniors aiming at JK, JEC and EYOC selection.
A voice in the club
Members can vote at the AGM, stand for committee, propose events, and shape what PFO does next.
Three memberships, one payment
PFO, NWOA and British Orienteering, all included.
When you join PFO, you automatically become a member of the North West Orienteering Association and British Orienteering. One annual fee, paid through the British Orienteering join form, covers all three. Senior, Junior and Family rates are shown when you start the application.
Membership runs to 31 December, joining mid-year still gets you full benefits to year-end. Most members renew automatically each January.
