Busy Weekend for Pendle Forest Orienteers Pendle Forest Orienteers members were out in force this past weekend, representing the club across a variety of disciplines and locations, from urban orienteering to fell running and national competitions.
Urban Orienteering Action Judith made the long journey north to the Scottish Borders to compete in the Berwick Urban event, taking on the intricate route choices and fast-paced decision-making that urban orienteering demands. Berwick’s historic streets and compact layout provided a fitting test, and it was great to see Pendle Forest represented so far afield. Closer to home, a strong contingent tackled the Salford University Urban event, with Hannah, Ben, Aly, Mick, Helen H, Cath, and Helen A all in action. The university campus and surrounding streets delivered a mix of technical navigation and rapid running, providing excellent racing for all involved. It was another great turnout from the club, showing the continued enthusiasm for urban formats.
Success in Northern Ireland Further afield, Kay and Emma travelled to compete in the Northern Ireland Sprint and Middle races, with both winning the Sprint category in their respective age groups.
Strong Junior Performance There was also an excellent result from Una, who competed at the Yorkshire Schools Championships at Temple Newsam Park. Racing against some of the region’s best young orienteers, Una secured a brilliant fourth-place finish, narrowly missing out on the podium but demonstrating great skill and determination.
Weets Fell Race From a non-orienteering perspective, Pendle Forest members were equally active on the fells, with plenty of runners taking part in the Weets Fell Race. The race, known for its challenging climbs and classic terrain, once again proved popular with club members looking to test their endurance and hill-running ability. An extra ‘well done’ to Karen and Katy, who both won their age categories.
