A slightly belated but great 60th birthday meal on Friday night for Pendle Forest Orienteers.
Huge thanks to Danny for hosting a cracking quiz, plenty of laughs and a great atmosphere all round, and to our Chair for organising. There was even a proper PFO cake to mark the occasion.
It was lovely to see such a mix of members, old and new, including a nonagenarian, which really says it all about this club. A special highlight came from George, bringing along some great orienteering history. Many people enjoyed looking over maps spanning decades of PFO events and the wider sport, including the original 1967 BOC Championships map of Hamsterley Forest, which was a real treat to see.
The PFO Broom
The PFO Broom was proudly presented to Ginny, in recognition of her huge contribution to the club throughout 2025: organising and planning events, looking after POC courses, and her immense help with permissions across East Lancashire. Incredibly well deserved.
A thank-you to MDOC
We were also delighted to welcome John Britton and Eddie Speak from MDOC, as a thank-you for the work they have done, and continue to do, for PFO through controlling and mapping. A special mention to John, who (with PFO member Judith Wood) planned the now-distant memory that was the Compass Sport Cup Final 2024.
A great night, great company, and a lovely way to celebrate 60 years of PFO.
