Local level event

Explanation of Event levels

  • Training events are non competitive events used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport.
  • Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Most clubs run some 'mini series' throughout the year as local mid week events.
  • Regional events attract participants from around the local Region.
  • National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away,
  • Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships or the annual JK competition.

If you are a first time competitor, Alkincoats Park is a great venue to learn about orienteering as a sport and as healthy recreation for all the family. Regular orienteers will enjoy the longer, more technical courses.

Map / Terrain

Fast runnable parkland but with areas of rough ground and scattered trees, plus substantial areas of woodland. Avoid running on games pitches if a game is in progress.

Red: All events in the Spring Series will offer a long course for both runners and progressing orienteers, mostly on easy terrain at a moderate technical standard.

Pre-entry via SIEntries only.

Standard entry fees up to midnight on the Wednesday 18th January:
Adults (M/W21+)
£6.00, Juniors (M/W20-) £2.50.

Late entries fees on 19th - 21st :
Adults (M/W21+)
£8.00, Juniors (M/W20-) £3.50. Entries accepted only up to the number of available maps.

Dibber hire £1.00, but £40.00 if lost! Collect your hired dibber from Download.

Dog restrictions

Dogs are welcome in Alkincoats Park. However we recommend they do not accompany you on your course. After your run, they may be exercised freely under control. Doggy etiquette applies.

Facilities

We have sole use of the event centre which has toilets, a changing area, a kitchen and parking. Overspill parking will be on Birtwistle Avenue or side streets.

The Pavillion Cafe, BB8 9QQ, by the bowling greens, serves excellent home cooked meals and snacks every day of the week. About 700m from the event centre.

Nearby shopping opportunities in Colne at Sainsbury's and Boundary Mill, which also has cafe facilities.
