Local level event

Explanation of Event levels

  • Training events are non competitive events used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport.
  • Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Most clubs run some 'mini series' throughout the year as local mid week events.
  • Regional events attract participants from around the local Region.
  • National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away,
  • Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships or the annual JK competition.

Planner's comments:

The race is run - the FINALE of the PFO Street-O series for 2024. The results have been published.

There were a few competitor niggles and some apologies to make, but all, it seemed, enjoyed their run around the quirky ginnels and country byways around Barnoldswick, which is surprisingly hilly! Each of the 55 controls was visited by at least one competitor - planner's result!

Control 54 was tricky. TP B/2534 __ __. The problem was reading the answer, which was affixed well up the pole (12 feet?) and difficult to see by torchlight. We were lenient with our marking and most teams got the points. My apologies for slowing you down.

The second problem related to the short path on the way to or on the way from the juicy control 64 ESS Jackdaw Rd, 497 __ __ . Early competitors were thwarted by a car parked tight accross the access gate to the path, but later competitiors has no problem once the car had been moved. Apologies to any competitor who was disadvantaged by this blockage and the consequent long run round, but we can only award points to those that actually visited 64 and gave the right answer.

This event was the FINALE for 2024. The after party at Hickey's & Friends, with special Pizza & Beer offering, was enjoyed by everyone who stayed. There was even a special birthday party thrown in with cake, an 80th birthday balloon, and a mercifully short 'thank you'. (Pics on PFO WhatsAp.)

We wish you all a very happy and energetic Christmas and New Year. There will be a PFO 2025 Street-O Series begining in January, rumoured to be 22nd in Helmshore - watch this space.

George & Wendy C-S PFO.

MAP SCALE: The competition map for this event is 1:10000, in simplified format.

Cobbled alleys, pavements, stairways and paths, some steep, may be slippery when wet. There will be plenty of route choice options along roads, alleys, tracks and trails.
Wear suitable studded footwear.
WARNING: There are many country paths in and around Barnoldswick. It has been very wet lately and many of these paths a muddy and slippery. O-shoes with good cleats are recommended and running in flat soled trainers is to be discouraged, especially if they are pretty colours!
Faster runners, going further will encounter more of these muddy paths.
