Explanation of Event levels

  • Training events are non competitive events used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport.
  • Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Most clubs run some 'mini series' throughout the year as local mid week events.
  • Regional events attract participants from around the local Region.
  • National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away,
  • Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships or the annual JK competition.

Is a web browser app for sharing and comparing orienteering routes. You can draw your own route or upload a GPS track from your watch. It also allows you to watch an animated replay with a simulated mass start.

Join us for a fun and tactical Urban Score event at Ightenhill! With a mass start at 7pm and 45 minutes to visit as many controls (in any order) as possible, planning your route and decision-making, not flat-out speed will be key. Over-run the time limit and penalties apply, so choosing when to head back is all part of the challenge - and the big question remains: can you get them all?

The intricately linked estates provide an interesting and compact area, mapped in full urban detail to give newcomers plenty of features to navigate by, encouraging exploration at your own pace. Control locations are only revealed at the start, adding to the excitement. It’s a great way to explore a local area, especially with a friend or two, with pairs and trio’s welcome. Full SI timing with instant results at the finish.

Entry is limited to 80 starts.

All participants are encouraged to wear high viz clothing and have a torch and/or head/chest torch for winter/twilight events. In case of light failure, backup lighting is advised.

Each single competitor or team will need a dibber (your own, or hired at £1 on entering).

Course Information

Courses: One course with 20 controls, 10 points/control. Max score 200 pts. Time limit 45 minutes. Penalties for late finishers: 1 point per 3seconds (20 points/min).

Start & Finish: Close to registration / assembly.

Timing: SI.

Sunset will be 16:43, so a head torch and high-vis clothing will be required.

Entry Details

Entry and dibber hire (£1.00) will be via SI Entries.

Online entries will close at midday on race day. There will be no EOD for this event.
An individual entry can be amended to a Pair or Trio if you want to add a buddy to run with, but this must be done on-line in advance via SIEntries.

Rules concerning junior entries:

Age 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult (as a pair or trio).
Age 16 & 17 may run as a pair, or be accompanied by an adult (as a pair or trio).
Age 18+ may run as an individual.

If the event needs to be cancelled the PFO Event Cancellation Policy will apply.

Dog restrictions

Taking dogs on urban courses is not recommended due to the traffic hazard.

Facilities

The event centre at Ighten Leigh Social Club serves typical pub refreshments.

Miscellaneous

Safety procedures that should be observed in urban events:

Insurance: From 1st January 2026, participants who are not members of British Orienteering will no longer be covered by British Orienteering’s public liability insurance. By entering any event from 1st January 2026, you acknowledge that you are taking part at your own risk. For example, if you were to accidentally injure a member of the public or damage property during the event, you would not be covered. British Orienteering’s public liability insurance used to cover non-members at events before this date.
