Regional level event
Explanation of Event levels
- Training events are non competitive events used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport.
- Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Most clubs run some 'mini series' throughout the year as local mid week events.
- Regional events attract participants from around the local Region.
- National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away,
- Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships or the annual JK competition.

This is a Regional event at Peel Park in Accrington. It is a classic long distance event.
It is is an AFTERNOON event with first starts at 12:30. The late start enables anyone who participates in other Saturday morning activities to engage in both.
Yellow and Orange are introductory courses specifically aimed at novices and juniors. The Light Green, Short Green, Green and Blue courses will provide more technical navigation and route choices. There is also a Red course available for those that wish a longer run at TD3 level. As there is no Brown course the Blue will be at the top end of recommended length/climb combination.
The whole competition area (Park, Coppice, Plantation and open moor) is popular with runners, dog walkers, horse riders, mountain bikers and orienteers. As a consequence you may encounter unmapped incidental paths.
Safety: WHISTLES are MANDATORY; WATERPROOF JACKETS may be required, at the discretion of the organiser.
Retirement: If retiring, you MUST report your retirement to Download, adjacent to the Finish.

Map / Terrain
Peel Park belies it's name. Classic 'parkland' is about 5% of the total area. The other 95% is either rough open moorland with scattered trees or classic orienteering woodland, plus many classic orienteering features. Take care near steep sided ravines!
The Peel Park map has been updated for this event to incorporate:
- recent fire damage - this has made some moorland areas more runnable
- mountain bike tracks - these are new and numerous on the steeper slopes, but only the most used are shown as paths on the map. Take special care if using these tracks.
- forestry work - mostly thining work which may have improved runnability, but leaving scattered logs.
- dog walkers tracks - there are many incidental tracks, especially on the open moorland, which are not marked on the map.
