Local level event

Explanation of Event levels

  • Training events are non competitive events used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport.
  • Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Most clubs run some 'mini series' throughout the year as local mid week events.
  • Regional events attract participants from around the local Region.
  • National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away,
  • Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships or the annual JK competition.

Map / Terrain

Rowley Lake is the far eastern end of the Brun Valley map. If you have never run a long course at Brun Valley, you've probably never been to the lake. It's nice!

The area is a mix of young plantation and mature woodland with areas of rough open and scattered trees. The area is bisected by a small river, a large lake and a couple of meandering tributaries.

Some route choices may involve fording the outflow river from Rowley Lake. It is shallow enough to ford in most places at most times, but purple bracket symbol )( crossing points on the map indicate the best places for fording, coupled with a nearby easy fence crossing. These crossing points will not be taped.
DO NOT at any time attempt to ford the river where it is bordered on the map by thick black lines. In orienteering terms, this means "uncrossable" and therefore "must not be crossed" at any time.

After heavy rain in the previous 24 hours, the river will rise significantly - for safety reasons, you will be advised at the Start if fording is forbidden. Use only bridging points as alternatives.

Course Information

Due to the impact of accidentally mis-punching if you run past a non-sequential control SIAC WILL NOT BE ENABLED for this event. All controls must be 'DIBBED'.

One Snook-O course for all. 60 minutes time limit. Rules similar to table snooker:

First part: Pot any Red+Colour pair, then repeat potting a different Red+any Colour, up to a maximum of 11 pairs.
Each Red must be potted only once, but Colours may be repeated. You can stop potting Red+Colour pairs at any time, before commencing to parts 2 and 3.

Second part: Pot the zero value control (control 150), to signal that you are transfering to the final colour sequence. It will be near to the Yellow control.

Third part: Finish by potting the snooker colours in sequence Yellow (112) -> Green (113) -> Brown (114) -> Blue (115) -> Pink (116) -> Black (117), then Finish. You can break from the final colour sequence at any time and head for the Finish. You must punch the Finish to stop the clock.

Penalties: No penalties if you Finish in under 60 minutes, thereafter penalties will be deducted at 5 points per minute (= 1 pt/12 seconds).

Scoring values:

All Reds: 1 point (controls 101 to 111),
Zero value: 0 points (control 150 only).
Colours: Yellow/2 points/112, Green/3/113, Brown/4/114, Blue/5/115. Pink 6/116, Black 7/117. Colour controls have a distinctive double circle around them.
Maximum possible score = 115.
