Regional level event

Explanation of Event levels

  • Training events are non competitive events used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport.
  • Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Most clubs run some 'mini series' throughout the year as local mid week events.
  • Regional events attract participants from around the local Region.
  • National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away,
  • Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships or the annual JK competition.

Planner's Comments:

Towneley doesn’t lend itself to any particularly technical courses, so the TD5 courses were a bit longer than normal to give a bit of challenge, this then resulted in some impressively fast times for the 6.4k Blue course.

Due to dense brambles and nettles, control 127 was moved at the last minute which turned out to be quite fortunate due to a tree being blown over and the council blocking off the route to/from that location.

Andy Ellis - planner.

Organiser's Comments:
Towneley is a dream location for an Organiser. Parking, toilets, cafe all in a handspan! On the other hand the stormy weather played havoc with several aspects of the event. Rain early caused paths to be slippery and streams to be swollen, but with adequate forwarning everyone coped. The gale sweeping the park meant shifting Registration to the lee of some trees but that worked well as everyone could see us when entering the car park. Start and Finish banners were not deployed, nor map boxes, nor Start clock. Maps and control descriptions were delivered to competitors by hand.

Just in time for the early starters the rain eased and with Caribbean temperatures there was little or no wind chill.

By all accounts everyone enjoyed their runs and some first timers even came back for a second run.

Thank you all for turning out on a tough day. Thanks also to our usual PFO cadre of helpers.

George Crawford-Smith - Organiser.

============================

Event 3 of 3 of our Autumn Series.

The competition area is a combination of intricate paths, mature woodland, thickets, open areas and maturing plantations. Summer undergrowth is dieing back. Good running throughout, with some tricky contoured areas.

There are two cafes in the park: Smaller (tea/coffee/snacks) at Registration, open all day and the larger cafe at the Hall (beverages/meals/etc), open from 12 noon till 5:00PM, 500m from Registration. Toilets at both locations. There is an all day parking charge of £1.50, payable at the meter.

Information on Towneley Hall and Park can be found here. Also on Wikipedia.
