Local level event

Explanation of Event levels

  • Training events are non competitive events used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport.
  • Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Most clubs run some 'mini series' throughout the year as local mid week events.
  • Regional events attract participants from around the local Region.
  • National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away,
  • Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships or the annual JK competition.

'Simple' results and splits file above does not take into account any deductions for visiting controls in the incorrect sequence.

Routegadget is available for MAXI and MIDI courses only.

League Table after the first June Series event at Lee Quarry. Several competitors have had deductions made to their score for taking controls out of order.

Planner/Organiser Comments:

Sorry about the rain, which wasn't in my forecast.

The results are in, and they make interesting reading. Don't forget that controls taken out of order will be deducted in the final league table. Comments below are made without this adjustment.

MINI-Orange: This was a tough Orange course but Billy Cole PFO made short shrift of it, including the infamous 112 reversed crag!

MIDI: Only one person, Lindsay McMillan EPOC, managed to collect all 14 controls within the 45 mins time limit. That's perfect as everyone else had to make decisions of when to change from 10s to 15s or when to quit collecting and run for the Finish.

MAXI: I wondered if anyone would or could collect all 21 controls in the 45 minutes. The answer was "nearly". James Logue finished 7 seconds early missing one control. Max Cole PFO finished 7 seconds late having missed 2 controls. A close run thing. (Later note: But Max has had points deducted for punching out of order!)

In general the courses were well received, though the Start, it has to be admitted, was rather informal. And a little late in opening just for the want of a Gripple key!

Finally, none of this would happen if it wasn't for the help of many members who, event after event, tidy up the fringes - parking, dibber issue, put out, run, bring in, results, write up, photography, etc. Thank you one and all.

League table will be published as soon as I am able.

Next week Alkincoats. Easier terrain, but the same mind boggling route choices. Don't forget to enter via SIEntries. See you next week.
